James SweetmanPrincipal

James joined Pekarsky & Co. in 2015 as an Associate and is now a Principal in the Calgary office. He brings a diverse professional background in marketing, military service and human resources. He has in-depth knowledge of the professional services, energy, education, not-for-profit, marketing/advertising and public sectors in Calgary. He executes senior level searches for professionals with functional expertise in marketing, sales, legal, human resources and board members.

Prior to joining the firm, James worked for a number of years in marketing at a boutique advertising agency and then a major retail brand. He then decided to embark on a career in the military and entered the British Army officer training program at the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst. The course is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and prestigious in the world, with a focus on military training, human resources, leadership development, and management. He then immigrated to Calgary and with his new found human resources skills joined a specialist recruitment agency and then a global contingent workforce and project management consultancy. In his career to date, he has placed professionals with diverse corporate services expertise and technical specialties across a host of industries, partnering with sole proprietors to global private/public companies.

James graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of York, sits on the Legal Assistant Diploma Advisory Committee for Bow Valley College and is an Officer of the Honourable Guard for The Military Museums Foundation. He spends his spare time cycling, playing field hockey and hiking the Rocky Mountains.
