CIWA’s Made to Measure – International Women’s Day event took place on Friday March 2, 2018 and featured beautiful dresses made for immigrant girls going to prom, by immigrant seniors. The Made to Measure project is an initiative that helps to increase social participation and inclusion between senior immigrant women by engaging them in a year-long mentoring relationship with immigrant girls. As a board member for CIWA, Ranju attended the event and had this to say:
“So proud to support CIWA through the Board and share experiences such as their Made to Measure project – An Intergenerational Story. Hand-made fashion grad dresses made for immigrant girls by immigrant seniors, some of whom were seamstresses in their countries they came from. As one of the young girls put it, “This is not all about the dress. It’s about the socialization and skill sharing between teenagers and seniors new to our country.” During this year long project, teens and seniors dedicated two days a week at CIWA working and spending time with each other. The results are amazing and heart-warming. Learn more about this incredible organization at www.ciwa-online.com. Happy International Women’s Day!”
