We are proud to have recently partnered with Trellis Society for Community Impact (“Trellis”) in its search for five new Board Directors.

Trellis is rooted in history and focused on futures. The organization grew from the merging of Boys & Girls Clubs of Calgary and Aspen Family & Community Network Society. Today, Trellis is building on the work of both legacy organizations to make an even stronger impact for generational change in Calgary and the surrounding areas.

Trellis became one of Calgary’s largest social service agencies when its two legacy organizations joined forces in the spring of 2020. Growing from a combined history of 117 years, Trellis now offers a continuum of 34 programs for over 9000 people each year. With over 360 staff, Trellis works in every quadrant of the city and beyond, in targeted areas like Chestermere and Strathmore.

Trellis supports growth across generations and envisions a world where everyone reaches their full potential. It provides effective frameworks and opportunities for nurturing this potential and is committed to empowering individuals and communities with the support they need to grow beyond life’s challenges and reach their dreams.

Trellis serves people across their entire life space, from infancy through to parents and caregivers. Some examples of people who access its programs include:

  • Families experiencing poverty
  • Youth and families in crisis
  • Foster families
  • LGBTQ2S+ community
  • Youth and families experiencing and exiting homelessness
  • Youth transitioning to adulthood
  • Children and youth in care (Children’s Services involvement)
  • Indigenous children, youth and families
  • Newcomers to Canada
  • Youth experiencing or exiting sexual exploitation
  • Young learners in preschool and kindergarten
  • Youth seeking employment
  • Soon-to-be new parents
  • Underserved communities

Over the next two years, Trellis’ goal is to take root and nurture key strategic priorities that will define its early years as a new organization. Along this journey, Trellis is committed to making space to focus on reconciliation and racial equity. Through this lens, in 2021 and 2022, Trellis will optimize its impact, grow its name, be the best place to work and act boldly. Trellis is focused on intentionally integrating its programs; ensuring its shared vision is known and inspiring; developing its leaders for today and the future; and positioning itself to be adaptable and innovative in time of both intentional growth and unpredictable change.

Trellis seeks to develop a Board whose members possess and demonstrate a strategic combination of personal attributes, expertise, social capital, competencies and occupational backgrounds so that, collectively, it has access to a broad diversity of culture and community, experiences, perspectives, knowledge, connections, and skills to carry out its governance, planning, stewardship and advocacy functions.

If you have a strong passion for our community and ensuring that all people have access to the support they need to reach their full potentials; corporate governance and strategic planning experience; and have been personally impacted by the work of Trellis or its legacy organizations, we want to hear from you! Preference for the upcoming board appointments in May 2021 will be given to candidates demonstrating legal expertise; human resources strategy and management; and strategic and operational leadership experience.

To be considered to serve on Trellis’ Board of Directors, kindly submit a cover letter relating the requirements of the foregoing description to your background in addition to a current resume to Susie Besler at [email protected]. In order to meet the required timelines established by Trellis’ Search Committee, we will not be accepting applications after Friday, February 19th.
