Chief Executive Officer, Vecova (WR: 557)

We are honoured to have partnered with Vecova on its search for its next Chief Executive Officer. Vecova is a leading edge registered and accredited charitable organization that has been meeting the lifelong and changing needs of persons of all abilities and the community-at-large since 1969 through its programs and services, social research and innovation and enterprises.


The Chief Executive Officer of Vecova will play a critical role in the organization, leading through change and the next season of the organization’s growth, which includes the planning and building of Vecova’s new Centre for All Abilities. The new Centre will be a world-class facility that will set a new standard for accessibility, inclusion and equity. A facility that will provide a welcoming and supportive environment for persons with disabilities, families and the citizens of Alberta. A facility that will be a significant architectural presence in Calgary’s Northwest, and that will maximize energy efficiency and reduce our carbon footprint.


The successful candidate in our search will be a highly strategic, transformative leader and will work collaboratively with the Board, the Executive Team and other leaders to propel Vecova’s vision and strategy forward.


We are seeking candidates with the following skills and experience:

  • PhD or Master’s degree in any of: Executive Leadership, Business, Social Sciences, Public Administration or Health
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in an executive leadership role, ideally with experience serving as a CEO
  • Experience reporting to a Board of Directors, and extensive knowledge of governance models and structures
  • Significant experience serving in an externally facing senior leadership role, interfacing regularly with senior members of government, the business community, other social organizations and the community at large
  • Experience and comfort with public speaking, including experience with speaking engagements, making public presentations, as well as acting as a spokesperson in order to effectively communicate and promote Vecova’s mandate
  • Demonstrated experience building relationships with elected officials and members of government, at all levels of government (federally, provincially and municipally)
  • Proven track record leading a high performance organization and leadership team
  • Significant experience with finance and operations, including audit, control, risk accountabilities, human resources, strategic planning, philanthropy and fund development
  • Strong experience mentoring and coaching others
  • Demonstrated experience in the management and administration of a complex organization with multiple lines of business and/or a diverse array of services
  • Proven ability to manage the resources and workforce in a large complex environment
  • Previous experience engaging in change management across an organization and creative problem solving
  • Demonstrated experience, practice and presence with diversity, inclusion & equity


We note that while knowledge of the not-for-profit sector and its funding models, government structure, political environment and coalition work is highly desirable, candidates coming from the private or government sectors will also be considered.
