Our client, The Brenda Strafford Centre for The Prevention of Domestic Violence (the “Brenda Strafford Centre”) is the largest second-stage family violence shelter in the province, serving people at risk of family violence through providing a safe housing environment and comprehensive support services for its residents.

 

It’s an exciting time to be part of the Brenda Strafford Centre.The family violence sector is changing, and the type of support that families need is changing. In response, the Brenda Strafford Centre is currently in a state of evolution, where it is not only adapting to this changing landscape, but playing a leadership role.

 

The Brenda Strafford Centre is seeking a self-starting, compassionate and determined individual to join the organization as its next Executive Director. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director assumes a key leadership position. having overall responsibility for the management of the organization.

 

The successful candidate will be a change agent, able to lead the organization through a strategic transformation. This person will also position the Brenda Strafford Centre as a leader in the family violence sector, working collaboratively with other players in the sector to challenge and reform the way the industry currently functions. At the same time, the successful candidate will be a strong operational leader, able to manage the realities that come with running a second-stage shelter.

 

The successful candidate for this position will have the following core competencies:

  • Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Community Development, Business or a related field
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in the human services and/or health sector
  • Leadership experience in a not-for-profit organization and experience managing in a resource-constrained environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build a vision, develop and execute a strategy, and ultimately get things done
