Vice President, Commercial Real Estate – University of Calgary Properties Group (WR: 584)
University of Calgary Properties Group (“UCPG”), formerly West Campus Development Corporation, was created by the University of Calgary to oversee the on-going development of the lands formerly known as West Campus. The responsibilities of UCPG include finalizing a Master Plan, seeking subdivision and land use designation and seeking developers and builders for the West Campus lands, now known as University District. Thereafter UCPG will sublease and provide ongoing management to approximately 2M square feet of retail and office assets to be developed by 2032. In November 2020 it was announced that UCPG will be taking on the management and redevelopment of a new project. The University Innovation Quarter (UIQ) lands, formerly known as University Research Park, will fall under the UCPG portfolio and will be comprised of approximately 4.5M square feet of retail and office assets.
Reporting to the President & Chief Executive Officer, the newly created role of Vice President, Commercial Real Estate (“Vice President”) will have accountability for defining and realizing the vision for the development, leasing and management of retail and office assets in both University District and University Innovation Quarter.
The Vice President will be responsible for the profitability of commercial real estate activities, including but not limited to, meeting budget and scheduling targets for development programs, accurately managing cashflow requirements, and leading and growing a high-functioning team. They will play a lead role in the identification of tenant and joint venture partnerships for anchor tenant and build-to-suit developments.
The ideal candidate will bring a post-secondary degree in a related discipline or a combination of education and experience appropriate to achieve the mandate. A minimum 10 years of experience in commercial real estate, ideally with experience in brokerage, asset management, development, leasing or property management is desirable. A track record of superior operational, financial and people leadership is a must.
