The YMCA, serving the community 364 days a year, presently operates and oversees seven different health and wellness facilities across Calgary, is home to over 1200 staff and 1500 volunteers, and handles over 2 million visits each year.

Reporting to the President and CEO, the Vice President, People & Culture is responsible for leading internal and external stakeholders in the development and implementation of workforce plans designed to achieve the YMCA’s strategic and operational priorities. The role is accountable for:

  • Leading the development and implementation of an HR strategy that is focused on optimizing people resources while building a culture of engagement, integration and leadership.
  • Building HR systems that support the development, satisfaction and effectiveness of the YMCA staff and volunteer team.
  • Planning and overseeing the effective implementation of HR plans and functions, aligned to strategic objectives, and in collaboration with YMCA leaders.
  • Policy development based on monitoring the regulatory environment, trends and related needs, influencing HR priorities of the YMCA.

The ideal candidate will possess superior leadership acumen and bring a truly strategic focus to the implementation of HR best-practices. Focused on optimizing HR’s role as a business partner across the organization, the Vice President, People and Culture, is an agent of change, capable of recognizing where efficiencies lie, and is able to provide meaningful direction to achieve results. The successful candidate will bring 10+ years of broad HR experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, as well as an educational background in Business or Human Resources and a CPHR designation. Additionally strong strategic thinking ability and technical experience across all HR functions is considered essential. The YMCA is looking for a leader that will be engaged and accessible to all staff across the organization.
