The Role Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Finance, the Tax Director is a key member of the Finance Leadership team and will be the head of the tax function across Graham, which includes its operations in both Canada and the US. This is a high-profile role in Graham that  interacts with all levels of management including the senior executive team, other corporate functions, and multiple operating divisions across North America.    This individual will lead a team, and have oversight for Graham’s strategic tax planning, tax compliance, tax reporting and planning for all locations within North America. The Tax Director will be a business partner to the business and representative of the Finance function.   What we’re looking for  We’re looking for a dynamic tax leader who not only brings a strong technical skillset, but importantly, who can lead a high performing team of tax professionals and create a strong team culture. This individual will be a clear, concise communicator and will be able to convey complex tax concepts to a non-tax audience. The successful candidate will also:  
  • Bring a minimum of 10 years experience within the tax function
  • Bring a minimum of 5 years of formal leadership experience, and ideally will have experience leading a corporate tax department in industry
  • Possess broad knowledge of strategic tax planning issues, tax compliance, tax reporting and tax planning
  • Have knowledge of international tax issues such as transfer pricing, employee mobility, cross-border contracting etc.
  • Hold their CPA designation

As a litigator, the Legal Counsel will represent the CPS and Chief in a variety of litigation matters including civil court actions and applications, fatality inquiries, and inquiries and reviews before the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta ("OIPC"). As a solicitor, the Legal Counsel will provide legal research, analysis and opinions on a wide variety of privacy matters.   This individual will be an important member of the CPS legal team, providing litigation and privacy related legal opinions, research, analysis, and advice to both the CPS, as well as to the Senior and Executive Leadership Teams. This position ensures that the impact of access, disclosure and privacy law on law enforcement duties, operations, administration and initiatives are legally sound and current. This position also assists the CPS in identifying and avoiding issues involving potential legal liability.   What we’re looking for We’re looking for lawyers who bring a minimum of 8 years of strong civil litigation experience. This individual will also:  
  • Possess excellent advocacy and negotiation skills, with the ability to represent the Calgary Police Service and the Chief in civil court actions and applications, fatality inquiries, as well as in judicial reviews of fatality inquiries and in decisions of the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta
  • Possess superior legal research and analysis skills
  • Be proficient in drafting pleadings, conducting discoveries and preparing for and conducting trials, as well as in preparing for and participating in settlement negotiations
