Our client, the Canadian Centre for Professional Legal Education (“CPLED”), is searching for a Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”) to build and lead the organization. Founded in 2002 by the Law Societies of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, CPLED is a non-profit organization whose goal was to create an integrated interprovincial system that harmonized the education and assessment process of the licensing process in each province. The core goal of the CPLED program — to prepare law school graduates with the knowledge and skills they need prior to entering the legal profession — has not changed since inception. However, what has changed is the method by which students are assessed and the manner in which online learning methods, approaches, and technology tools have evolved. The initial work of the CEO will include working with the Law Societies of Alberta, Manitoba and Saskatchewan to establish Board competencies and an appropriate committee structure; working with the Board and the Law Societies to establish the initial direction for the redevelopment of the education and assessment models; refining an organizational business plan and budget; and hiring staff. Concurrent with laying the initial foundational pieces of the enhanced CPLED program, the CEO will be required to lead and innovate in the areas of education, training and assessment as it pertains to high-stakes professional certification programs, online learning methods, approaches, and technology tools. The successful candidate will require a unique combination of skills, though not necessarily in equal measure. Specifically, it would be desirous to find candidates who bring:
  • familiarity with the legal profession and the stakeholders it serves;
  • deep knowledge of the latest developments in educational assessment, particularly high-stakes professional certification programs;
  • and the vision and entrepreneurial spirit required to build, grow and lead an organization with all the attendant ambiguity that comes with such an undertaking.
If you are interested in learning more about this exciting senior leadership opportunity please contact Pekarsky & Co. by reaching out to Adam Pekarsky, Founding Partner at [email protected] or by calling 403-263-4474 ext. 222 or James Sweetman, Principal at [email protected] or by calling 403-263-4474 ext. 225.
